Causes range from hormonal changes during puberty, taking certain medications or drugs, and genetic predisposition. Approximately 70% of healthy teenage boys, between the ages of 12-14 years of age, experience some changes in their breasts during puberty. This is usually a result of hormones and goes away after a couple of years.
However, in some cases, the breasts naturally develop into a more feminine appearance without any specific reason or cause.
Even in these situations, the problem is treatable with male breast reduction surgery, and the correction is permanent. To date, there are no medications proven to get rid of gynecomastia.
The most common causes of gynecomastia that we treat in our clinic are:

There is predominantly a 4 stage classification structure set in place to distinguish the type of gynecomastia condition you may have.
Which are ….
The above classification has been adopted by the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and referred to this as the gynecomastia scale.

Many moons ago, gynecomastia treatment was only performed as an inpatient surgery under general anesthesia.
However, with the growing numbers of gynecomastia surgery patients comes the need for the procedure to be performed in a more efficient and comfortable manner for the patient, so men can get back to work and the demands of daily life.
Much like other cosmetic procedures, this demand has created a new niche with having gynecomastia surgery in an office setting under local anesthesia.
Here at Skin Medics UK we look to make our patients stay as comfortable as possible, we will only use local anaesthetic with our treatment plans which will ensure you can return to normal life as soon as possible.
Get in touchIn cases where gynecomastia is primarily the result of excess fatty tissue, liposuction such as our Vaser Lipo technique alone may be used to give the desired effect. This requires insertion of a cannula, a thin hollow tube, through several small incisions.
The cannula is moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat, which is then removed from the body by vacuum suction. For more information on the Vaser Lipo Technique please visit our Vaser Lipo section of the website.

If glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed to correct the gynecomastia issue we must use the excision technique. Excision also is necessary if the areola will be reduced or the nipple will be repositioned to a more natural male contour.
In most cases a combination of both Vaser Lipo and Excision Technique is used to give the patient the ideal “manly” Chest appearance and because of the Vaser Lipo technique we can go beyond the limits of good results to the realm of excellent results as we can aim for a 4D high definition appearance.
